How to be More Successful in LifeHow to be More Successful in Life…

We all have our own definition of success. Reflective practice can help you define what success means to you and enable you to take action to be the best you can be in your personal and professional life.

We are all so busy and stressed in the modern world, it seems as though we don’t have time to think or have a moment to ourselves. Reflective practice can help change all that. Instead of reacting to everything that happens during the day or in your career, you can be proactive and take charge of your situation to live your best life.

Learning from Experience

Reflective practice can best be described as learning from your experiences in a structured way. If you have been feeling stuck in your career or held back by a lack of knowledge or skill, reflective practice can help you analyze the situation, set goals, and draw up an action plan that will free you from the constraints which prevent you from achieving the level of success you deserve.

Self-Analysis

Many people are very critical of themselves. They lack confidence and often hear a negative little voice inside their head telling them they won’t succeed, will never be good enough, have to be perfect or it’s not worth the effort, and so on. This negativity can paralyze a person and stop them from ever even trying to achieve their goals.

With reflective practice, you will be actively analyzing what you do well and what you could do better. You will be like an observer assessing what happened, why, and ways that you can handle things better next time. You might also consider what skills might have come in handy in order to achieve a better outcome. Then it is up to you how you wish to act on the results of your analysis.

Taking Action

Once you’ve identified areas that could use improvement, it will be up to you to follow through with positive action steps. Define what you see as success in that situation and then seek the knowledge or skills that will help you succeed. For example, if everyone falls asleep or squints at your PowerPoint presentations, reading a book or going on a course about how to create powerful presentations would be two action steps to take.

In terms of your personal life, are you and your partner struggling to find quality time with each other? Scheduling time with each other on your calendar and hiring a sitter, or having the kids sleep over at grandma’s house once a week, will probably do wonders for your relationship. Even little things like cooking dinner together, or 15 minutes of quality time relaxing with each other and sharing a glass of wine, can help you connect and enhance intimacy

Being True to Your Higher Self

In many cases, we do or say things we really don’t wish to, or mean. The beauty of reflective practice is that in analyzing our actions, we can proactively choose our path – not just react to situations in an often mindless and stressed way.

Your analysis of your actions will become easier over time, and will become deeper. As you identify patterns and issues that need to be addressed, some of the things revealed might be disturbing. However, they need to be addressed in order to free you up to live in alignment with your higher self. Reflective practice can be transformative and healing in terms of body, mind and spirit.

Success is up to you, because it should be on your own terms. Start a reflective practice today and define what success means, then follow through with your goals.
