Three Questions to Evaluate Your Self-Esteem
There are many quizzes and tools both online and offline to help you evaluate your own self-esteem. A number of these tools all use the same types of questions. Let’s take a look at some of those common questions so you can spend a little time evaluating your own sense of self-worth. Let’s focus on questions that you can ask yourself now, and in the moment when you may be questioning yourself.
1. Do I Achieve the Goals I Set for Myself?
People with a healthy sense of self-worth and self-esteem are often good goal setters and tend to accomplish the goals that they set for themselves. This comes from confidence and persistence as well as a good understanding of their strengths and weaknesses, which means they set good and realistic goals for themselves. If you answer “No” to this question, perhaps you could think about the reasons why you don’t achieve the goals that you set for yourself.
2. Do I Feel Supported by the People in My Life?
How well do you feel the people in your personal and professional life support you? People with healthy self-esteem tend to have healthy relationships. They’re not afraid to ask for what they want from their loved ones and they are also very good at reciprocating. A person with low self-esteem might let negative people into their life or people who are critical and unsupportive.
If you find that the people in your life don’t support you, start taking a look at why they are in your life and how you might change that relationship.
3. Do I Trust Myself?
Do you listen to your inner voice, your values, and your path, or do you let others influence your actions and decisions? When you are faced with a decision, who do you turn to – yourself or others? How well do you follow your gut? Do you allow the values and actions of others to stop you from pursuing your goals?
Think about your personal and professional life. Consider your interests, goals, and dreams. Do you own those and follow your heart, or do you allow others to get in your way? It can be as simple as not pursuing an interest because you fear ridicule or judgment from your peers.
When you’re having a bad day or you’re experiencing negative feelings, consider these questions. Ask yourself how you’re feeling about yourself. If you’re feeling a wee bit down or your self-esteem is suffering, take some steps to take good care of yourself.
Self-care improves your self-worth. Also strive to focus on your strengths. Remember who you are and what you’re good at.
We all have moments of doubt. It’s natural and normal. Don’t let those moments take over and become your mindset. Your self-worth is important to your health and happiness.
