I invite you to imagine how our physical performance can be influenced by a positive attitude… just for a minute. Contemplate, how we think and feel about things, will affect what we say, do, accomplish and pursue.
In this light – try a wee exercise: Take a look at these two lists of words and then check in with yourself to see how they make you feel while and after reading them.
Is one more motivational or a downer? Why is that? Which one will move you to move mountains or flop back on the couch?

We are living, breathing, human systems , interacting with one another and the environment where we are. We are all connected and all part of the same reality, existence and energy dynamics.
Thinking and feeling positively about ourselves, our health, abilities, future, success, day, opportunity, can definitely have an effect on how we approach others, view ourselves and tackle what we have to do and achieve.
Our thoughts and feelings are inextricably connected and now there are many studies that confirm that by controlling these thoughts, increased mental focus, positive thoughts trumping negative ones can have a very real effect, which in turn has a great impact upon the future for self-healing practices.
Studies have also shown that more upbeat people, tend to be healthier, optimists tend to live longer (as much as 7 years!), reflection and meditation can actually lower stress-hormone levels in your body, to the extent you can actually strengthen your immune system and be healthier.
It is fundamental that we change our thinking about what and how we are and will be happy and successful, dismissing negative thought, critical and sabotaging self-talk. Harnessing the power of not only positive thought, but positive decisions, action, plans and living.

Wonderful post, Moira. I agree, that upbeat people tend to be healthier…along with many other benefits. I enjoyed your exercise. It brings things to light. Thank you.
Thanks Alexandra! Yes positivity has so many great benefits.
Attitude determines your altitude! 🙂 You got it, girlfriend… Great post!
Thanks Norma! I appreciate you 🙂
A positive outlook is healthy for the mind and body. Holding on to negative thoughts is draining and counterproductive to a happy life. Thanks for sharing!
Well said Meryl – releasing is the key and I know you do great work in this area too.
Great insight. I aim high for a positive attitude, BUT I am human and I fall short some days. Today is not one of them however 🙂
Glad to hear it Anita – you are a wonderful inspiration!
Great post, there is a strong power of attraction for people who are positive. They attract people, affection energy and money like magnets.
Thanks Tom – yes positivity definitely spawns more positive people places and things!
Great post, Moira – we must constantly be tuning that self-talk radio dial! I agree that more upbeat people tend to be healthier. Adequate sleep, nutrition, exercise, mindfulness practices go a long way to helping maintain healthy thoughts.
Thanks Lisa – staying tuned into a healthy self dialogue is a wee bit like a dance sometimes! Being upbeat is the best way.
I absolutely love the positivity of your posts!! It is very healthy to think positive and release the negative things and people in our lives:)
Thanks Daniele 🙂 – yes being positive does not necessarily ignore the negativity in our lives… it’s something that needs to be maintained and nurtured.
Moira, wonderful post. I so agree that our thoughts and feelings are connected…absolutely!
Thanks Sherie! Yes the connection is sometimes even beyond our conscious awareness!
I posted this to my facebook page, I liked it soooo much.
Much appreciated Barbara! I’m glad you liked it!
Being positive can make such a difference in our overall wellbeing, and interesting statistic about living longer. Thank you for the reminder!
Thanks Cathy! Yes being positive has so many wonderful side effects!
I admit to being the Eternal Optimist. Might have something to do with being partly Irish? 😉 Actually it’s the result of realizing that it takes just as little effort to be positive as it does to be negative … and negative’s less fun.
That’s wonderful Sharon! It’s true that negative is less fun – but it’s much heavier physically and emotionally.
I love your emphasis on positive thinking Moira. Our thoughts direct our actions so why not make them good ones!
I agree Carolyn – it’s all about choice!
Avoid pity parties, instead spend time doing thinks to enhance your own life as well as the lives of others.
Nicely put Pat! I agree.
I now you at right on target here. I have a stress related disorder that effects my physical body in a big way!
Thanks Elizabeth – I can definitely relate to the stress related disorder affecting the physical body – it’s something I have had to work through myself (which is why I really encourage people to stay positive!)
I use to have a big problem with negative self-talk. I still do in some regards as I am sure I will always have it, but I have gotten better about defeating it. The change of words can be a huge difference in the quality of life. If you think I am warrior and will persevere then you probably will rather than someone who says I am a victim and this is too hard, the world is too difficult.
Thanks for the post.

I think that everyone has a wee bit of a challenge with negative self talk from time to time… the secret is to always recognize it and then working on releasing it rather than resisting your own negativity. I am never a victim but I am a work in progress – that’s what this game of life is all about as far as I’m concerned!
Thanks for your comments.
That is true. I like that. “I am never a victim but I am a work in progress.” That is a good one. Each and every day I will try to better than I was the day before.
