Visualization and Meditation ExplainedVisualization and Meditation Explained…

Visualization and meditation are two powerful and useful tools for transforming your life. They can be used separately or blended together to achieve your own personal goals. It’s important to understand the difference between them so you can make the best out of combining them in any meditation practice you wish to use for yourself.

What Is Meditation?

Meditation is a practice in which an individual trains their mind, or induces a different state of consciousness, with the goal of either achieving a particular benefit, or clearing their mind from the “clutter” that can prevent them from living their best life.

There are different forms of meditation. Some attempt to empty the mind of all conscious thought. Other styles encourage contemplation of a particular topic, such as the nature of human life. Still others encourage visualization.

What Is Visualization?

Visualization means to create a mental image – to see it in the “mind’s eye”, as the phrase goes. Research has shown numerous benefits to visualization, also referred to as guided imagery. Benefits include controlling pain, getting ready for athletic or other kinds of performances, relieving stress and anxiety, motivating for change, goal achievement, and so much more. Guided imagery can transform a negative mindset to a positive one, and therefore alter mood, perceptions, and feelings.

Meditation and visualization are therefore two methods of training the mind. Let’s investigate why combining the two of them can be so powerful.

The Focused Mind That Can See Clearly

Once you have achieved a clear mind, you can think about anything you wish, but visualizations tend to help transform your mood, most often relaxing you and removing the stress and tension of the day if you do it in the evening.

It can also energize you and make you ready to face a busy day if you do it in the morning. Visualizing your day and any challenges you know you will be facing, such as a big meeting, can mentally prepare you so that when the time comes, you won’t feel nervous or stressed, but calm and serene.

Useful Visualizations to Try

If you love sharing memes on Facebook of adorable kittens or puppies, chances are you already have a number of images you can use for your visualizations. If you love pinning images of lovely locations at your Pinterest account, or taking photos when you’re on vacation, chances are you also have a range of options for your visualizations. It is just a question or what feeling you wish to evoke – from warm and fuzzy, to energized and even adventurous.

If you have trouble summoning up visualizations in your mind’s eye, print out some of your favorite images and place them on the wall in front of where you meditate. If you have a little corner of the room where you meditate, create a montage of images so you can focus on one or two per session to see what works best depending on the goal you wish to achieve.

The Benefits of Visualization and Meditation

There are several main benefits to doing these two techniques together:

  1. Meditation and visualization improve your mental and physical health.
  2. Meditation and visualization empower your mind to overcome self-limiting and self-sabotaging beliefs.
  3. Meditation and visualization have the power to transform your life through goal setting.
  4. They can also transform your life because you are harnessing the power of your subconscious mind to effect the changes.

Try meditation first to calm your chaotic mind. Then, when you feel an inner calm, add a visualization, and see what a difference it can make to your body, mind and soul.
